The Beginning
The start of the book says many papers has been placed in sequence to create the novel. It then means that the book is a true story.
The title of the first chapter that reads "Jonathan Harker's Journal" itself gives the reader a lot of information. From it the readers are instantly able to figure out that it has been taken from a journal belonging to Harker.
It also gives the readers a lot of beautiful scenery Harker sees during his journey that can give the readers a chance to make powerful imaginations.

Basically, the beginning of the book itself gives out dark and chilling atmosphere. The start of the chapter already turns mysterious and gives out a Gothic since Harker does not know anything about the person he is meeting except his name;Count Dracula.
He also comes across amusing situations like when people shows him the cross symbols and talks about evil and darkness.
The conversation he has with the old lady before he is off to his journey also adds up the tension. The lady tries to stop Harker from going with no proper explanation. We only know that it was the day when all evils would be in "full sway".
Overall, I think the book is really interesting and also makes you want to read more and more.I also found it hysterical when he is unable to understand what people around him are saying which does confuse him a lot.
